Japan Day 8 – Nijo Castle and East Gion —
We were so determined to do somthing today we are worn out yet again and had to use an ATM to replenish our cash ๐ not that we haven’t had to do that yet on this trip, but in was our first time in 3 days and we feel pretty proud about that!
We did NOT get around to Visiting Toji Temple, which is fine.. we were running around enough with what we DID see..
We woke up early and hit the Subway heading to Nijo Castle which has 2 Shogunate Palaces on it’s grounds, I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
Some of the Stones used in the walls were positively massive.
After we stopped in for lunch and I uploaded those pics we headed out to the Eastern Gion District. Because of it’s location “outside” the city and accross the river, it’s been spared by the many fires that have over the course of the last thousand years pretty much burned Kyoto to the ground. As a result.. it’s more or less unaffected and it’s architecture is “classic”
We hoped to see some Geisha and we got lucky.
Once it started raining we headed back to the hotel..
We have 0 plans for tomorrow.. and I suppose we will figure somthing out tonight ๐ I think we are more planning what we are doing our last 2 nights in Tokyo ๐ It’s just soo hard to move about in Kyoto.. but it IS somthing like half the population of Nashville squeezed into an area the size of Lincoln… so who can complain?
